Miradas proyectadas

Last Friday, March 13, eight Latin American creators gathered together in a one-of-a-kind event, a film showcase called: “Screened Views”, one of the first samples of the 22nd Bienal de Arte Paiz (BAP).

Starting at 6:00 p.m.,, eight independent videos were screened at the Centro de Formación para la Cooperación Española (Antigua Guatemala:

  • “Childhood Bedrooom”, Beatriz Cortez (El Salvador),
  • “Apoptosis”, Victoria Bahr (Guatemala).
  • “Ruta del Sol”, Ximena Díaz (Colombia).
  • “Kiej”, Reyes Josué Morales (Guatemala).
  • “Todo lo grabé”, Milena García (Nicaragua).
  • “Anatómicamente Correcto”, Evelyn Price (Guatemala).
  • “Bordeline”, María Adela Díaz (Guatemala),
  • “Futuro”, Marcela Moraga (Chile).

A round table was held at the end of the screening with the valuable participation of María Adela Díaz, artist and designer; Evelyn Price, theater director and filmmaker; Reyes Josué Morales, theater director and cultural agent; and Gabriel Rodríguez, cocurator of the 22nd Bienal de Arte Paiz.

The 22nd BAP lets us look at the present using the past, a past filled with Guatemalan difficult issues and focusing on violence, cross-culture and ancestral culture. The goal of the event, therefore, was to get the public acquainted with video as a valuable format for art and for the promotion of critical thinking.
