Museo del Libro

Founded in 1956, it is located where the first printing press in Guatemala was to be found in Colonial times, and thanks to the initiative of intellectuals Rigoberto Bran Azmitia and David Vela Salvatierra, this institution protects books printed during the Guatemalan Colonial era. Among them, it houses the first known book printed in the country in 1663 (the sermon, Explicatio Apologetica, by Fray Payo Enríquez de Rivera, who brought the printing press to Guatemala); a letter from Christopher Columbus addressed to Hernán Cortez; the authentic testament signed by the Holy Brother Pedro de San José de Bethancourt; the first textbook in the country and many other works. In addition, there is an exact replica of the first press that arrived to Guatemala.
