Centro Cultural de España

The Cultural Center of Spain is one of the most dynamic institutions in terms of culture in Guatemala. As part of its commitment to participate in the rehabilitation of the Historic Center, in June 2013, it moved to the building that occupied the Lux Theater, a heritage space and an example of art-deco architecture of the 1930s, which was very important for popular culture. It was the most modern and luxurious theater in the country, to the point that it was called the Palace of Cinema. The building was inaugurated in March 1936 with the screening of the Mexican film “There in the Big Ranch (Allá en el Rancho Grande)”, and its stage received the most shining stars of the moment in parade, Pedro Infante, Libertad Lamarque and Sarita Montiel, amongst others.
