Oscar Perén

Guatemala

Oscar Perén’s paintings have recorded the history of his people, San Juan Comalapa, since he first held a paintbrush when he was a child. Without complacency of any kind, the paintings have covered different autobiographical and historical events, which portray customs, daily life and the problems of his surroundings. With a wide range of subjects, Perén has also discovered different ways of painting. In his workshop a constellation of memories is depicted from his viewpoint as a former member of the military and then as a guerrilla.
